Diversity is reflected strongly among those who participate in YMCA activities and use of its facilities. Many YMCAs provide short term housing and accommodation with the residents coming from many nations and backgrounds; training facilities for both men and women; health and fitness suites provided by many YMCAs have been successfully offering customised programmes for people with disabilities; and the range of activities involves people of all ages. At Chelmsford YMCA, as you will see from the rest of our website, our primary work is the provision of a wide range of programmes for young people and our Childcare programme.
What do we do?
Children's services (0-12 years):
We deliver high quality, affordable, OfSTED inspected childcare across Chelmsford. This includes:
- Full day care nursery: open 7.30am-6pm, 51 weeks a year.
- Out of School Clubs (Breakfast and After School) collecting 4-12 year olds from 12 schools.
- Holiday Clubs open 7.30am-6pm during all school holidays.
We also offer groups and classes for parents to guide and support them in raising their children.
Youth Services (9-19 years):
We offer community youth groups across Chelmsford for young people aged 9-19. These run on various days and times with programmes including sport, crafts, personal development and much more.
Our Youth Training team offers life skills training for 14-25 year olds, which young people can use to help them make decisions about their future.
Our Family Support team aims to empower families with children who have emotional/behavioural difficulties so that they have appropriate skills to enable full participation in the social and educational opportunities available to them.
Why do we do it?
Chelmsford YMCA affirms the value of every person. All people need and deserve to have opportunities for personal and social development and everyone in the YMCA is valued for who they are, encouraged, supported and challenged to become what they can be. We offer a wide range of activities for young people to participate in, and opportunities for personal development.
With our stakeholders' support, we work with children and young people under the age of 25 and their families in a variety of programmes designed to meet the needs of our community, both now and in the future.
All our work is funded locally and we rely on donations both large and small to support the breadth of work undertaken at the YMCA. If you would like to donate, consider legacy giving or would like to become a member of the YMCA, please explore the links at the top of the page for further information.
